Seeing, Touching and Hearing Is the Best Way to Learn
My students need to be able to use an Osmo Genius kit to learn at their own pace, and in as many different ways as possible. Osmo will enable them to use all their senses in their learning.
I teach a special group of students, who are inquisitive and creative. These 6th through 8th grade severe needs students are always asking questions. One student, when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, said she wanted to be a cat. When I asked her why she wanted to be a cat, she said that cats are always finding things. I helped her realize that it was impossible to become a real cat, but that she could be like a cat and find things.
These students have struggles but they refuse to be defined by their special needs, they are embracing their strengths.
I want to be able to provide my students with the tools they need to explore the world around them. Even though these students have special needs they still enjoy learning and when they reach those "Ah, ha!" moments it is really rewarding.
My Project
Osmo will enable my students to use all their sense in learning. My students need to access their learning through as many different modalities as possible. By being able to interact with the information that is normally only accessed by hearing and seeing, my student will be able to retain their learning better. Osmo will also allow for differentiated learning within my classroom, since not all my students are on the same learning level.
I believe that every student can achieve their full potential, they just need the correct tools to do so.
Being able to touch, see, hear and move within the lesson helps all students work toward their full potential, and with those students with special needs this is even more true.
