My students need Mo Willems' books from the Elephant and Piggy series and also other books of his including, "Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs" and "Hooray for Amanda and her Alligator" for an author study!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year is a year of new beginnings. My school is opening its doors for the first time and it will be a growing experience for all of us! My school is located in an urban area that consists of several different cultures. Most of my students come from single parent homes and do not always have the experiences that many students have. However, what may be lacking in some areas we are rich in love and support for each other.
Whatever you do at great length, you grow there in strength.
This is our classroom motto and applies to everything we do from academics to the way we treat each other.
My Project
Mo Willems does an amazing job at helping students read with expression. He uses different fonts and sizes to help students to realize when they need to use loud voices and quiet voices. He also uses a variety of speech bubbles to help convey the character's message and feelings. This really helps my young readers to learn to read with expression!
When readers read with expression it brings the story to life!
Not only are Mo Willems' books humorous but they also teach important life lessons. By selecting a wide variety of Mo Willems books, from the Elephant and Piggie series to the Pigeon series to many other selections like "Leonardo the Terrible Monster" and "Nanette's Baguettes". All of these books will be an amazing addition to our existing collection!
Students will use these books to learn about Mo Willems, learn about author's craft, and really dive into reading with expression!
