Seeing The Scene! Processing Crime Scenes in the Classroom!
My students need MoldGel to do facial reconstruction labs that we have never been able to do. The other materials will be used year round, every year to process our crime scenes.
I started Forensics at my school 4 years ago. The course has grown so much in that time. We have gone from one section to four sections. We have also (this year) added a Forensics 2 course. My Forensic Science students are a combination of 11th and 12th grade students. This class is an elective that meets the requirements for a science lab credit, too. My students love the content of this class. We do several labs every grading period. We learn best by doing!
The kids are having fun and being fully engaged, but are learning science at the same time!
The kids come from such different backgrounds and have different interest, but the awesome part of Forensics is that there is something for everyone!
My Project
Students always say, "I'm so glad I got this class!". That is amazing to hear as a teacher. I started the forensics program and have really tried to develop it over the years. We have never been able to do facial reconstruction, the MoldGel would allow students the opportunity to see how the process works.
The fingerprinting supplies would allow us to develop prints that are not visible to the human eye.
Currently, students are only able to use ink to take fingerprints. The calibers would allow students to measure hair and blood spatter.
The calculators and other materials will be used to process crime scenes all year, year after year!
