My students need new microscopes. The microscopes we currently use are worn out and it is nearly impossible to see good images with them.

My Students

My students come from what is considered a rural background but several of them have very limited view of the world. Many of them are raised in a small town so they have a very limited knowledge of "big city" life. There are several of them, however, also do not venture into the countryside around them. This gives them a very limited exposure to the world around them. They come from very good families to broken families that have been broken apart by drugs. Some of my students go to class during the day and work in the evening to help support their family.

My Project

My class would really benefit from some new microscopes. The microscopes we currently use are very old and worn out from years of use. We are beyond needing them replaced, but funding is limited.

New microscopes would allow my students to be able to look at the world as they could before.

They will be able to see structures on organisms as well as organelles that exist within their own body. It will allow my students to better see the microscopic world that they hear about, but up until that point have not been able too see clearly.

We also use slides that are very old. In hopes of continuing to use them I am trying to get better storage to help keep the slides preserved.
