Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Aristotle once said, "A soul never thinks without a picture." I couldn't agree more. Pictures keep memories alive. They remind us of where we have been and give us a perspective of where we want to go.
My students are a mixture of all cultural backgrounds.
They are beautiful children with a lot to say despite their lack of the English language. My students have different disabilities that range from autism to emotional disturbance to ADHD. My students come from high poverty homes and consider school to be their safe haven. They love to come to school!
My Project
My students need a lot of curriculum modifications and adaptations because of their disabilities. I have to take into consideration their learning styles (visual,audio, tactile) to assure that each one is getting the learning experience they deserve. In an effort to engage my students and capture their interest I am requesting the Leapfrog materials to aid in our yearlong science project. We have adopted a class tree on the school grounds and will follow that tree throughout the entire school year.
We will be observing, investigating, analyzing, and comparing things we see happening in nature as the seasons change. Nature activities help show children the fun side of learning! The leapfrog camera and video recorder will help students capture images outdoors that they can turn into stories and have discussions about, thus improving expressive skills and scientific thinking skills. The pictures and videos they take themselves will give them more ownership of what they have accomplished.

Technology is the wave of the future and these Leapfrog learning systems with their camera and video capabilities will enhance the learning of my students while meeting their visual, audio, and tactile learning styles. This yearlong science project will be a learning experience they will never forget. I will be creating a shutterfly account for the parents of my students to view the pictures they take this year.
