Cross High School is a very small, rural school that educates about 450 students in grades 7-12. Being that Cross is such a rural area, and our school is often seen as insignificant in comparison to the larger schools in our district, we don't get the publicity that other schools often get when our students perform or go above and beyond their student duties. I hope to change that a little by being able to take photos of my students as they do different learning activities and when they are honored for special things (student of the month, Honor Roll, Principal's List, etc.) and post them around the school. For this reason, I would like to have a digital camera and printer for my class. As students participate in different activities I will be able to capture them in action. One activity that we often do is creating a geometry quilt. I would like to be able to capture that process from beginning to end. I would like to be able to take photos of the students as they begin making their quilt squares, while they are in the process of completing their squares and finally, the completed quilt. We do many other projects, but this one is especially good and it brings out the creativity in my students. I would also like to use the camera and printer to take and display pictures of my students of the month. Each month I choose a student that has done exceptionally well and deserves to be honored. I present them with a small gift, a certificate and a homework pass. I also would like to be able to take their picture and display it in the class or in the hallway. I think students love to see that we are paying attention to them and the good things that they are doing. I plan to use this camera and printing material to highlight our wonderful students. I want to show our students and parents that just because we can't be on the daily news, they can still be daily news at our school!
