My Students

As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.” In the classroom seeing is learning.

I teach first grade in a high poverty district in Virginia.

My students come to me eager to learn, and I want to give them the best possible start. At the first grade level, that means giving them a strong foundation in reading and math. That foundation is an absolute necessity for continued success in school and beyond. Our school district is facing severe budget cuts. Those cuts translate into larger classes with fewer resources. That is why I am seeking creative ways to fund equipment I know will benefit my students.

My Project

I am requesting funding for an ELMO TT-02RX Visual Presenter. I plan to use the ELMO in a number of ways. Books will be displayed so that every child (not just those in the front row) can follow along with the text. Classroom work samples will be shared so that students can become editors of their work and the work of others. Math manipulatives and science experiments will be visible to every student. The interactive reading and note-taking strategies I am already incorporating will be enhanced. I see the ELMO as an important scaffolding tool for the visual and English language learners in my classroom.

I am excited about the learning opportunities this equipment will provide for my students.
