This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Draw what you see"...this is my mantra for my Art students...learning how to draw what they see inside and in their natural surroundings is essential in developing skills and talent.
I have over 700 hundred students in a low socio-economic, title one, INNER-CITY elementary school.
Students value the ability to draw and have a strong desire to learn the skills necessary to draw. Supplies get used rapidly. A little has to go a long way.
My Project
I envision my students being able to take a drawing board, paper, drawing pencils, and erasers outside and begin learning how to draw things that they see every day. They will be able to practice this on their own as well as during several classes throughout the year to gain skill progressively.
Therefore students will learn to draw what they see using the elements and principles of art. Eye and hand coordination will improve and students will be able to train their eye in capturing realistic subject matter.
Students will gain skill and confidence.
Self-esteem will rise because of skills and talent developed. Students will be prepared for middle school art classes if they so desire. Students can also transfer skills to other disciplines by persevering until they master certain basic skills.
