My students don't have access to the technological necessities that make learning fun and engaging due their economic status and lack of funding for our school. They are already at a disadvantage, but are so eager to learn and explore with technology.
My students are very eager learners.
They are mostly level 1 or 2 students, meaning they are reading or performing below grade level in English and Math. Our school is located in a lower socio-economic area in New York City and we are a high need school. We have limited materials, and when it comes to technology, we don't have much and often have to share or borrow. My students are already at a disadvantage when it comes to their learning capabilities and need the resources that will help them succeed.
My Project
Having a digital projector will help my students to learn in a differentiated way. Since they are lower level readers, I need additional ways in which to reach them and help them succeed. A digital projector will allow me to show educational videos to help them understand materials, charts, and graphs to improve their understanding. A projector will also allow me to share interactive sites that will pique students' interests in specific topics.
Most of my students don't have access to computers and printers at home. They are often required to type and print information for their exit projections, and English papers for their portfolios: often, as their teacher, I save their work and take it home to print. It becomes costly when I have several classes and 60 or more papers to print at home! Having a printer at school, where all students can print information for their research projects and completed written pieces, will be convenient for my students and myself.
My students are very deserving, but have been dealt a wrong card ... so to speak.
Due to their location and economic status they do not have access to the materials that would make learning fun and engaging. They deserve to have access to all the materials that will place them at an advantage when it comes time to enter the work force.
