My students need an iPad, Apple Pencil and the document camera to stimulate visual and tactile learners to actively engage in the daily lessons. Being a math teacher, there are lots of concepts that require the use of manipulatives and visual aids.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Can you remember the time when you got that "AH-HA" moment when you finally got math? Daily, I see that glimmer of recognition in the eyes of my students. My students are highly motivated fourth graders who come from an urban background in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, schools within such a community are tasked with competing with schools that are better equipped with current textbooks, supplies and technology that prepare its students to efficiently maneuver in a global society. They are very eager to learn with new materials and start each day with an excitement to become better and brighter than the day before.
My Project
The document camera will help to stimulate visual and tactile learners to actively engage in the daily lessons. Being a math teacher, there are lots of concepts that require use of manipulatives and visual aids, such as rulers, protractors, and other mathematical manipulatives. By using the document camera, I can demonstrate how to properly use the manipulative without having to go to each scholar. The iPad and stylus will be used to monitor student learning while on computer based programs such as ST Math and Zearn. Also, I can keep the positive reinforcements such as ClassDojo, which helps with moral!
