When you live in a rural community of approximately 700 people, there are so many things in the world you have never had the opportunity to see or experience.

I teach reading, spelling, and English to 4th and 5th graders in a low income rural K-8 school where my students are always motivated to learn and are always asking for more information. My students are eager learners! However, several of my students have never been outside of our local area. When we read about and discuss stories and lessons that happen in different areas, how can they relate? I want to make learning meaningful and engage my students in the process. The only obstacle I am facing in being able to do this is to provide a projector so that as a class we can view and discuss the world together!

Visual images make a world of difference! I want my students to be engaged in the lessons we are talking about by being able to make connections. With the use of a class projector we would be able to pull up pictures of places we are talking about to make our stories and lessons more "real." Along with a projector being able to take us places the students could also use it to make presentations to the class about things that they have learned.

I want my students to gain appreciation for the world they live in. I want them to know that there is more out there than what they see around them. I want them to be able to speak to a group of people without it being a big deal, therefore making them better leaders. With the limited resources I have, I cannot make learning as meaningful as it should be. You will make it possible for my students to engage more actively in their learning.
