My Students

I Hear and I Forget, I See and I Remember, I Do and I Understand. This Chinese proverb has been the cornerstone of my philosophy when teaching Science. I truly believe that students need to have hands on experiences for Science education to be meaningful.

My students come from all walks of life.

We are a very diverse school located in an urban area. Some of my students only experience enrichment inside the classroom setting, and do not have many engaging experiences outside of school, and some of my students have been identified as having specific educational needs. Because of this, I try to provide my students with as many engaging experiences as possible during the school day.

My Project

My students will use these materials in Science lab so that they can many more complete observations of the natural world. Currently, they are only being provided with magnified pictures of objects and substances. These do not allow the students to truly make observations for themselves or connect with the material being discussed. This class set of hand lenses and classroom microscope would allow my students to make these observations for themselves.

My students need to see themselves as scientists, and science needs to be real for my students.

The careers of the future are more and more requiring a science-minded person - someone who can think critically and solve problems efficiently. I want my students to have all the options available to them, and I believe that putting these tools in their hands and allowing them to experience Science is the first step.
