My students range from 9th through 12th graders who have a high desire to learn. In the Northern part of Knox County, Halls High School is a top notch school that is often forgotten about. The Halls community is one that is strong and many generations of families have walked through the Halls School System. My students enjoy the visual part of math and love showing off their successes. They try to do as much hands on work as a math class allows and could use some extra technology!
My Project
First there were chalkboards. Then we had dry erase boards. Now the SmartBoard. None are as great as the document camera. Not only does the document camera allow me, the teacher, to work through problems while facing my students; it also allows for much more peer involvement. Students are able to quickly show their work to the rest of the class by simply sliding their paper under the document camera. When this happens, excellent discussion of student work takes place. We look at all types of work. Things done correctly, things done incorrectly, different ways to solve problems; the possibilities are endless. With a document camera, the teaching and learning will both benefit.
