Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a special needs school in the Bronx. I work with students living with autism, intellectual disabilities, and emotional-behavioral disabilities. Our school provides a safe haven for my students to interact with other people in a respectful environment, and to gain experiences that enrich their lives.

My students are amazing and have a strong desire to learn, with amazing potential that I can unlock with the right tools.

My students work hard and enjoy being in school learning new skills. They live in a lower socio-economic area and come from a variety of socioeconomic situations. I truly admire their ambition and willingness to learn new skills.

2020-2021 has shown me just how great technology can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and I hope that the additional technology will help us grow even more!

My Project

Knowing community survival signs is one of the keys to traveling safely throughout our city. My students will greatly benefit from the structure that these visuals create by helping them to learn what is expected. We'll use the materials for a close-up color view of the signs with teaching, reviewing, and ultimately learning the signs. The laminating sheets will help preserve their work for years to come. They will gain the independence as they are able to successfully participate in more and more activities. Before long, they will be integrated in the school community and acquiring important academic and social skills to prepare for the real world.
