This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
All of our students need your help. While our students are eager to learn and master material, certain characteristics for future success need to be emphasized, communicated, and acted upon throughout the school year.
It is vital for my 11th Grade Algebra 2 students in Detroit to be pushed out of their comfort zone as they explore technology and ideas without the fear of failure!
Our school is magnet school identified as a High Progress and Beating the Odds School by the State of Michigan ranked #3 in academic performance within DPSCD. The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and while our students perform at such a level, our building and resources within are in great need of updates so that our students can reach even higher goals for the school and themselves.
Past students have expressed the desire to continually help teachers with improving their practices while maintaining or exceeding current expectations.
My Project
Last year, our classroom donors provided binders, copy paper, technology, and all sorts of materials for student use at our school. With lessons learned, we are in need of resources that align with our new curriculum.
My students work in collaborative teams with clearly identified roles to solve problem-based math tasks.
I have used various colors for different classes and teams (up to 10 teams of 4 per class) that help our students to easily identify what they need and aide in personal, classroom, and school wide organization.
The paper will be used to color code each class when we assign math tasks to be completed. This helps with task submission, class distinction, as well as a simpler way for me to identify where tasks belong.
The index cards will be used in individual classes to easily identify various teams and their contributions to the class.
The markers will be used for students to present their findings in in front of their peers using chart paper and the whiteboards.
Thank you for considering donating to our classroom!
