My Students

My eighth grade math students are preparing to move onto high school and the world. They are inquisitive and intelligent, and also desperate to decode the mysteries of algebra!

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, life experiences and situations, from refugee camps in Kenya to wealthy schools in our neighborhood, and one of our major goals is to learn to work cooperatively and productively together.

Our school mission statement is "Courage-College-Community". We work to understand our differing ways of coming to school, and how to support each other to be our personal bests! We all have value and strengths to bring to the group, and my students are growing up to be the thoughtful and intelligent thinkers we need for today's global community!

My Project

My 8th pre-algebra students need to master the basics of algebraic thinking to be successful in high school. Many students struggle to understand, remember execute the steps, rules and "laws" of solving algebraic equations because it is so abstract.

Understanding algebraic thinking and problem-solving is a crucial skill in a student's development-and these materials will help my students "see" the laws of algebra!

These supplies will allow my students to have hands-on practice solving algebraic equations.

They are accessible for all levels of learners, because they provide a visual and physical model that shows algebraic rules! With these materials, Aha's will be rampant!
