This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
What can I say about my scholars? The scholars that I have the pleasure and honor to serve daily are some of the most thought-provoking, charismatic scholars ever. They come to school daily with a desire to be loved, heard and understood as well as to be successful in spite of their many circumstances.
These scholars come to me as blank slates, ready to receive all of the knowledge and wisdom that I can pour into them and that is my goal every day and with every encounter!
My Project
My 6th graders first unit in science is about Plants. As a way to help students lexiles levels grow, I want a way to incorporate literacy in classroom. The book, Seedfolks, gives students a diverse background about how a garden united a community.
"By reading the book, Seedfolks, students will explore what it means to be part of a community and how the actions of one person can positively impact an entire community.
Students will grapple with how being part of a community can help a person change and evolve as they discover new things about themselves. Students will also wrestle with how prejudice and racism impact the way people treat each other and the ways in which both can influence an entire community." (book review) It is my hope to include this book to acknowledge my core values of building a positive classroom culture and have an understanding that all students have a contribution to our classroom environment.
