Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Creativity and problem solving are at the center of my students' brains and hearts. My 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are always tinkering, designing, and collaborating to answer a question. Inspiring projects that promote learning and community are our focus!

My Project

Students will use greenhouses to start seed pods for our hydroponic towers. This will allow students to take home fresh vegetables, maintain hydroponics, identify plants, contribute to a food bank, and collect data.

Greenhouses are also a great tool for teaching about rare and tropical plants like cacao, the chocolate tree which demands special soil conditions and has a shrinking growing region.

Students will grow the seedlings and use this information to understand the need for chocolate sustainability as it is related to climate science, fair trade and child/slave labor.
