Each and every one of my students is amazing! They each have something unique and special about them and its my job to figure it out within the three years they are in my class. Middle School is a tough age to experience and live through and that is why I teach at this level.
My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds with the majority of them being dis-functional in one way or another.
Along with the different home lives, many of them are also low income. To me, this means there are a lot of experiences they are missing out on and some they are getting that I couldn't even handle.
Along with everything else, all students now face technology overload. They love all the gadgets and access to everything but they don't realize what they are doing to themselves. It's incredible to watch them interact with each other and enjoy themselves and not realize it creates a better social atmosphere without something buzzing or beeping.
My Project
The students started plants from seeds and would like to see them grow and produce a harvest come fall. To do this, we need to cultivate the earth with our shovels and picks and fence off a garden area. To be successful, we will need to take all our garden supplies and water in our heavy duty wagon and walk to our plot of land. If this project can help even one student have a purpose for the summer, it is successful.
Our cilantro will definitely be usable for our homemade salsa for our last school dance.
The kids are very excited to watch everything grow!
