My Students

Do you remember the first time your Music Teacher allowed you to play the instruments? The thrill begins with playing the rhythm instruments in the younger grades, but the older students want to play "real" instruments.

I teach in a suburban district where many of the students do not take music lessons outside of the classroom.

Some will never get the opportunity to learn an instrument at all. The music room is the only place they have to opportunity to experience the thrill of playing an instrument.

My Project

Having students create their own video about what they have learned is an authentic way of demonstrating knowledge. The students will be writing scripts about different instrument families to help teach the younger students interested in band. I also plan on having the students write and perform their own jingles to "sell" a product.

Using a multi-media approach to music education appeals to all different kind of learners and truly allows all students to express themselves as they feel comfortable.

I have seen how allowing students to demonstrating their learning in a variety of ways brings out the best of their abilities.
