Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning as well as kindness toward others, and their engagment in classroom activites!
My Project
Born This Way Foundation is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder, braver world. That mission is only possible when students have access to the information, support, and resources they need to foster their mental and emotional health. My students need a class set of R.J. Palacio's book 'We're All Wonders' to prepare my students to create that brave and kind world! First grade students are learning to read and this book provides a simplistic and readable text about acknowledging the individual differences as well as similarities we all share.
Children need to start early to understand words are powerful and can cause as much sadness as joy.
They need to set the mark for kindness, letting it start with each of them. A class set of books allows me to focus on reading skill as well as the content. We can have many dialogs about the meaning of the book as well as create projects that show them how to reach outside of themselves to help others.
It only takes one person in a group to cause others to focus on what is right and just. I want these children set out in the world and be the one to make the difference. Show others that being different is unique to all individuals. May the world become a kinder and braver place to live! Thank you for considering this project.
