My Students

Through hard work and perseverance, my students were able to continue to show their passion for science even through a screen. Now that the students are back in person, they crave that hands-on work with science that they were missing during remote learning, as many were missing the equipment needed to do these types of investigations at home. As Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (FSSA) is an arts school, students thrive from these hands-on experiences since many art forms require physical setting and environment to create the best work possible. Many FSSA students are passionate about astronomy and worlds beyond this one on which we live. They desire a chance to observe and analyze the world outside of Earth - this can promote new discoveries and give people chance to see more of the vast universe we live in (and hopefully inspire these young artists in their quest for knowledge). It not only benefits students interested in science, other art students can use the telescope and inspire them. would be appreciated by all students in FSSA.

My Project

Here at Sinatra we have a science club - a very dedicated group of young individuals - who are trying to enhance their STEM knowledge through hands on experience and scientific community service that will impact our school, neighborhoods and world in a positive way. This telescope will help us not only to learn more about the wonders of the night (and daytime) sky and inspire our art and general perspectives in class, but also it will help us to build a scientific community that educates the youth and makes our communities more conscientious as a whole. We plan on organizing events in the evenings at local parks in which students who otherwise might not get to utilize a telescope in their lives will be able to view the sky through our telescope (and maybe share some delicious snacks!) I should also point out that our school is in the process of eliminating it's Earth Science classes and we do not have any astronomy classes, therefore this is in some ways may be the only way for us to learn about the skies above.
