My Students

The School District I teach at as a whole consists of 1,371 students, 31% of which are Caucasian (425), 64% Hispanic (878) and 5% other (69). The level of poverty is documented by 87% of students being eligible for the Federal free/reduced meal program. Educational attainment data indicates 22.5% have not completed high school or a GED program and fewer than 4.5% have earned a bachelor's degree. The 2010 data indicates 11.6% unemployment rate and 8.4% of community has a household income below $10,000 and 38.1% with below $34,999.

Despite socioeconomics, these kids are some of the most caring, kindest students I have ever come across.

They truly care about their community.

My Project

Students learn science by doing science. Hands on materials will help my students to learn abstract concepts in an engaging, effective format. Microscopes are a fundamental necessity of any forensics classroom that my students are currently lacking.

Teachers are lucky to work with an incredible group of students.

I would like to see my students grow and reach destination they never thought possible. In an effort to transition my Forensic Science Classroom culture from involvement to increased engagement, I am looking to intensify interest and applied meaning. I am looking at purchasing digital microscopes to increase my ability to teach my students about forensic evidence. I also need forceps to handle evidence. These resources will really help my class to become a hands on classroom.
