My Students

GRIT, if you ask any one of my 5th graders what I hope they will learn this year, it is just that--GRIT. Grit is the ability to persevere when challenged, continue to try even after failing over and over, and embracing mistakes. These kids do that, and more, each and every day.

In our classroom, we don't let hard work stand in our way; we embrace it.

We know that making mistakes is part of our journey. These fabulous 5th graders come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, each facing numerous challenges each day. Yet, somehow they are able to leave everything else at the door and impress me every day.

I am so proud of these hard-working kids. I can't wait to see what creations, discoveries, and inventions are in store in for their future.

My Project

As the new school year is about to begin, I am excited to teach my 5th graders all the curriculum and standards that they need to learn to be prepared for middle school, but first and so much more importantly, I need to build relationships with them and get to know them and show them how much I care.

When students feel cared for they will give you the world.

By spending the first week of school getting to know my students and allowing them to get to know me, they will trust me and know how much I care for them. With the materials from this project, I am going to be able to start the year off right by putting together a bulletin board that will stay up all year and display pictures of my students and their goals. This display will be unveiled as part of our first classroom transformation for the year where we will be celebrating and getting to know one another through escape room style back to school challenges. The table cloths will be used to help set the atmosphere for this transformation as well as future ones. The book bags will be used to introduce them to the 40 book challenge where they will be encouraged and celebrated for their reading achievements for the school year. All of these activities will part of celebrating who they are and the goals they will set for the year.

All of these things together will help to set the tone and kick off the school year in a way that shows my students that I care about them and who they are. My students and I will be able to learn about one another and will be set to have a great year.
