My students need an Apple iPad 9.7 inch in order to facilitate their use of problem solving skills for the 21st Century which are: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity.
How can we engage students in learning when we do not have the necessary materials? The days of direct instruction are in the past. We need to raise a group of problem solvers that can think independently and come up with new solutions to old problems. They also need a way to share that information and engage in high level discussions.
My project will not only all students to instantly share information with each other and engage in high level discussions, but as the teacher, I will be able to instantly access understanding and restructure my lesson at that moment.
I want to change this mindset by providing lessons and activities that give each student the opportunity to solve problems and find success. As Socrates so eloquently stated, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." The ability to actively engage all students can be attained with the proper use of technological tools that meet these standards set by Socrates; imparting information is not the way to teach, but actively engaging students to where they seek out knowledge for themselves and share with others is the victory.
My Project
My students are in need of a way to be engaged in learning, and one of the best ways to learn is through the sharing and discussing of information. Socrates said, "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." This is what I hope to be able to accomplish with having an iPad in the classroom. The iPad will allow me to utilize educational , interactive lessons that allow immediate student responses on their technology devices and giving me a way to interact directly back to all of them. Such a tool allows me to engage and interact all students during each teaching moment.
