I teach excited first graders at a school in South Georgia. As of now I have 15 students, who are all English Language Learners. Not only do they need to learn academics, but to feel love and safety in my classroom!
Books can provide visuals of places, animals, and things that they may never see in their lifetime, because most of my students will never travel more than 50 miles from their home!
Most of my students’ parents do not speak English or have a very limited English vocabulary. My students deserve material that will help them in the classroom!
My Project
These books go with the Journeys Reading Series, which we started with last year! Since my students are English Language Learners, the books will give my students the visuals and the vocabulary they need! Students will be able to read or hear stories that are related to the story each week. Since the 15 students in my class are English Language Learners, they need more visuals to help them understand meaning and vocabulary! These books can be read in addition to the weekly story to aid in the learning! Not only will these books help the students in this class, but the students for years to come!
