Help me give my students developmentally appropriate books that they will feel confident reading.
Various topics and characters will appeal to the interests of all my students. Thus inspiring them to pick up a book AND read!
I serve students that come from all different families and backgrounds. I serve students that are eager to learn. I serve students that come in smiling, because they are happy to be at school, not just to learn, but to create friendships. Our elementary has classrooms filled with amazing students, that given the right opportunities can truly learn to fly! I am always looking for more opportunities to give them. This year we have enjoyed the read aloud books that I received from my last project. Although it is important for students to hear someone read to them, it is equally important for students to hear a story read in their own voices. I want my students to have easy-independent books that can build their confidence. We can use these books for self selected reading, reading strategy groups, and workstations.
Having books they can read independently will build their confidence and help them apply the phonics instruction they receive daily!
Reading is the passage to the future, I do believe that.
My Project
Students will be able to walk up to a library with both fiction and non-fiction stories. Filled with different topics, and characters, they are sure to find something that looks interesting. I want them to see a book they like, read the book, and love reading! I can also use these books when I work on Reading Strategies with my students. They can self select a book, and I can listen to them read as I watch for strategies and guide/prompt them when needed. This creates a beautiful circle of excitement, reading, and learning!
