My students need graphing calculators (TI-84) to be able to compare/contrast linear/quadratic/statistical data. The ability to use these calculators is a must to progress through high school and excel in college.
My students love to learn and experience new technology. As an inner city Title I school, many of my students struggle to obtain the basic school supplies and needs for the classroom. They speak many different languages, learn in many different ways, and are on many different learning levels. In the past, when I have introduced students to the many capabilities that these calculators have, the response has always the same: “COOOOOL!”, “AWESOME!”, “LOOK AT THIS!”, "I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD DO THAT!”
As our mathematic requirements grow, the students are yearning to have the latest and best technology.
I love to hear them being engaged and energized by the use of technology in the classroom, not distracted by it!
My Project
We need graphing calculators, primarily TI-84s, in order for students to excel through high school and in college. Students need to become proficient in the use of these standard tools. Graphing calculators enable students to SEE there data, not just as numbers but as comparable graphs.
The TI-84 is the standard in mathematics as well as science.
The graphing capabilities aid students in the development of critical thinking skills. These calculators will also help students view data and comparing data sets. Students will be able to discover and compare anomalies within data sets as well as consistencies within data sets. The requirement to become familiar with these calculators becomes increasingly important as students progress through their education.
