As a fourth grade teacher, my goal is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all of my students. Giving them the opportunity to learn in a stress-free environment where their individual personalities and backgrounds are supported and respected is very important to me.
I teach in an economically-disadvantaged area where sixty-two percent of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
My students come to school excited to embrace the challenges that face them, while many are excited to leave their struggles at home. My students are passionate about learning and deserve every positive thing this world can afford them.
My Project
Due to recent events in our country, safety in schools has become a great concern. Our school is no exception. If a child does not feel safe in their environment, they cannot successfully learn.
Safety now has to become our number one priority before learning can occur.
Although our classroom doors lock, the Barracuda Scissor Locks would enable us to further protect our students by not allowing the hinges on our doors to open from the outside. It also allows the door to be secured from inside the classroom very quickly in an emergency situation. It is also a very inconspicuous device and will not draw attention to our classroom while in a lock down situation.
I am asking to purchase these locks for our entire fourth grade hallway and one unified arts classroom. Many students and parents have been inquiring as to our emergency procedures to ensure their child's safety, and we would love to be able to be able to proudly say we have the most secure rooms for their children.
