I teach a full-day kindergarten class in our K-3 school which is part of a small community that holds a very special place for me as a parent, teacher, and resident. One-third of our students are from military families, and our school works very hard to maintain meaningful connections with these families for as long as they may be stationed here.
Positive connections between our school and our families ensure the success of each of our students despite the changes and challenges they may face.
My children continue to come to school each and every day eager and excited to learn. They are amazing and add joy to every day!
My Project
I want to be able to give my kindergarten students a greater knowledge of letter sounds to help them gain confidence to be the amazing readers I know they can be! By donating to this project, donors will be giving students strategies to change their whole lives by learning to read; when students know the reading "secrets", they will be able to decode many new words and feel empowered!
The Secret Stories program will be used daily to help my students understand WHY letters make the sounds that they do as well understand sound symbol relationships through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means.
Secret Stories provide a fun and engaging way for students to learn the tricky phonics patterns that are otherwise difficult to remember. These stories teach the relationships between sounds. Each pattern has a short, engaging story to help students remember the phonics pattern. Once students know the "secret", they can immediately start trying out new words! The kit includes posters of the Secret Stories, musical stories, and a teacher instructional manual. The accompanying flashcards will be used in both large and small reading groups.
Teaching my students with Secret Stories will help them become better readers AND writers. With the Secret Stories multisensory approach , my students will find reading a fun, meaningful, and positive experience. Thank you for your support of my young readers!
