My Students

I currently share my special needs classroom with 13 boys and 2 girls from 1st grade to 4th grade. Although it is considered a Behavior Program, we laugh, have fun, are real and love learning. We have some behavior issues every now and then, but we work though them together and come out stronger on the other side. My students do tend to get overwhelmed, stressed and overstimulated by things throughout the day, but I could not imagine doing anything else. We are a family!

My Project

In my self-contained special needs classroom of mostly boys, we tend to get overwhelmed and overstimulated with life in general. I do have some things that I have collected over the years for them to use when they are upset, but we need some new tools. Anxiety, hyperactivity, social skills and academics are just some of the life skills we focus on each day. It is difficult to work on the academics though until their other needs are met. With additional flexible seating, sensory tools and fidgets, we can calm our bodies and get to the academics quicker. My students love to learn; we just struggle with maintaining control of our bodies sometimes.
