This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our high school is a Title I Turnaround School. We serve approximately 720 students in grades 9-12. Our school offers universal free lunch to all of our student population. The ethnic demographics of our school are 98% African American, 1% Hispanic or Latino, and 1% other.
My Project
Senior students have suggested that we do a "Secret Santa" exchange for the holidays. These seniors are frequent users of the library. I would like to be able to offer them a selection of popular YA titles as potential gift options for their "Secret Santa" person.
These students are prolific readers, and it would be ideal to continue to foster their love of books.
The books selected for the project cover a variety of genres and will enable senior students to pick a book of interest for their "Secret Santa."
