My Students
My school is located in an urban area of Ohio. My students have taken advantage of school choice and are determined to earn their high school diplomas.
Most of our kids fight some sort of battle every day. Our students struggle with poverty, homelessness, employment, transportation, and language barriers. In spite of all of this, they show up to school. Some days are better than others, but the kids are earning credits and passing tests and working their way towards graduation.
My Project
Our students have spent the past several seasons clearing the way for our urban garden. The next step in their plan is to create a mural on the garden walls that represents who they are and to make the space their own. Many of our students have never had the opportunity to have their art displayed. This project gives them the outside walls of the building as their canvas.
Creativity is encouraged and supported in our school. We have incredibly talented students who have been planning our mural. They are only missing their supplies.
