My students come in each morning eager to learn! They have to squeeze around the small white board I have and then try to situate their chairs so they can see the transparency I have copied for today's lesson. I am constantly bumping into them with the overhead projector cart.
My school is a small rural school.
We have a very high number of economically challenged families. The students in my class are so eager to learn, and it is often distressing that I don't have everything I need to help them achieve their goals. My school, like many other schools in the nation, is on a very tight budget and are unable to comply with some basic classroom requests.
My Project
A document camera will allow my students to see lessons projected on the whiteboard with the actual material we are using in class, not just a copy and a transparency. Students will be able to bring their own work up and put it under the camera so the entire class can see what they have done and how it relates to our lesson. They will also be able to put books, pictures and any other type of printed material under this camera for the entire class to see.
This camera will allow all students to take part in our daily discussions and lessons with more confidence.
The fact that I can project the items so ALL students can see what is happening, while I am instructing, will most certainly make a huge educational impact. This project will make it possible for all students to be engaged. I know as an educator that when students are engaged in the lesson at hand, learning is taking place.
