My second grade students live in a low-income urban neighborhood in Manhattan. They are smart and creative and need some supplies in order to achieve their highest potential. They are sweet, adorable kids who are very hard-working.
My students carry a lot of weight on their shoulders every day.
Many of them live in neighboring shelters and projects. They need various supplies in order to be successful this school year in second grade. We use supplies daily for learning and to create hands-on, engaging projects.
My Project
Many of my second graders do not know how to swim. We are fortunate enough to get the opportunity to take swimming lessons at the local YMCA. My students need goggles and swim bags to help them keep all of their belongings organized on the days that we go swimming.
Most of my students do not know how to swim.
They will learn how to swim during their swim lessons which I take them to once a week during the winter months of school. These swim bags will really help them stay organized.
Swimming for the first time for many of my students can be very scary. These materials will help them stay safe and enjoy swimming. They only receive a swim cap from the swimming program. Most of my students cannot afford to buy goggles and swim bags on their own. With your support, swimming will be fun, safe, and enjoyable for my students!
