My students need these school supplies such as folders, pencils, construction paper, and scissors to be equipped with the basic essentials for learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Work hard, get smart, no excuses!" That is the motto my class lives by. My second graders are making it with what they have. Equipping them with the basic essentials to survive second grade is my mission right now. They've promised to work hard, and I've promised to get them what they need.
My students are a group of bright second graders.
They are very inquisitive and unique. They are very keen on doing their best. Our school is a Title I school in one of the poorest counties in Florida. Due to the economic status of most of my students, basic supplies go lacking. Our school district does the best we can to close the gap. Unfortunately, our independent efforts are not always enough. My students go above and beyond for me, so this is my way of going above and beyond for them.
My Project
I am requesting basic supplies such as scissors, construction paper, pencils, glue and three prong folders with pockets. With these supplies students will be able to begin using pencils to take notes (specifically in math, science, and social studies), and they can keep the notes in their two pocket folders. They will be able to use the glue, scissors and construction paper to do arts and crafts in social studies and science. The students are beginning to plant flowers and will be able to use the tissue paper as a medium for making their own 3-D flowers and labeling the parts of the plant. Our class pencil sharpener is not working, and the two I bought with personal funds are now damaged. Thusly, sharp pencils are always a problem, and take away from valuable instructional time. The pencil sharpener will surely come in handy, and reduce the amount of wasted time.
This project is important, because it will meet the basic needs of my students.
They are on the same playing field as other students, but without the necessary equipment to succeed. This puts them at a disadvantage. The importance of this project is to level the playing field, and give my second graders a fair chance at success. When my students see donors who are willing to contribute to their success, they will be grateful, and they will work hard!
