Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I will be teaching second grade for the first time in a classroom of 25 learners! My second graders are creative, thoughtful, and excited to learn! The class is in a level four turnaround school in a large, low SES, urban city. The majority of these students live in poverty. All of the children receive free breakfast and lunch from the school. The children are seven and eight years old. It is so important to continue to foster their love of learning through quality, engaging, and interactive instruction!
My Project
Teaching and learning in small groups is an integral part of second grade! Engaging in differentiated center work with small groups of peers is a key part of pushing each individual learner to their maximum potential! Second grade will utilize small group instruction during ELA centers, guided reading, math centers, and a "superflex" math block! Countless studies have demonstrated the positive impact of small group instruction on student learning!
How are we supposed to engage in the benefits of small group instruction without a small group table?!
This small group kidney table will make a world of difference in our classroom! It will provide an essential piece of classroom furniture for differentiated groups to meet with the teacher! In particular, this table features a whiteboard top for more interactive learning! This will prove an immensely valuable contribution to our classroom and student success!
