Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of future mathematicians and scientists. We need more math supplies so that each child will be able to practice what they are learning. I hope these supplies will excite my students and encourage them to stay in school and pursue careers in math and science.
My students are wonderful second graders.
Our school is located in a high poverty immigrant community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school, and my students will hopefully be the first ones in their families to go to college. My classroom consists primarily of students who are learning English as a second language. I also mainstream deaf and hard of hearing students and learning disabled students in my all inclusive classroom.
My Project
These math supplies will enable my students to get real experience and practice with the math tools that they are reading about in their math books. I currently have smaller sets of rulers, clocks, and coins so my students have had to to practice using them in small groups instead of getting individual practice. My students will now be able to each use the rulers to practice measuring things in the classroom using both inches and centimeters. They will be able to use the clocks and coins to get individual practice telling time and counting money. They will also be able to use the number tiles to get individual practice with ordering and comparing numbers. The tables and graphs set will allow each of my students to get practice learning and using these important skills during their math and science lessons.
One of the best things about these resources is that these math tools will be able to be used every year so hundreds of my future students will benefit from this project.
My students love math and science!
I try to make my lessons exciting by bringing their lessons to life so all students can be exposed to the curriculum. This project is important because it will allow my students to be able to practice the math skills they are learning. I hope this project helps my students become confident and excel in math. This project will make a difference because it will positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in math and science.
