Education is no longer a one size fits all approach. My co-worker and I would like to see second graders have the opportunity to MOVE while they learn. Our students are all very diverse in their needs and abilities. We want to provide them with a variety of learning positions in which they can be actively engaged and increase their productivity level. We've noticed that students tend to seek out what is comfortable for them and I would love to be able to give them more options as to how they can learn each day.
My Project
My co-worker and I have a busy group of movers and shakers in 2nd grade. We have ALREADY purchased many items for our classrooms but are still in need of Sit Spots for circle time, a couple comfy chairs, and additional Buddy Bands. Our second graders are a diverse group of students who all learn in different ways. With some flexible seating options, students will have the opportunity to learn in a more comfortable environment. They will be able to move the SIT SPOTS to places around the classroom. The COMFY CHAIRS can be rotated each day and the BUDDY BANDS will be used to allow movement when working at traditional desks. We already incorporate fidgets/sensory bucket and brain breaks throughout the day. But, we think even more movement is needed to increase blood flow to the brain and engage our students. We believe that giving students the opportunity to choose where they sit to learn will not only increase comfort but also help increase work production and stamina.
