My students are amazing Alaskan kids with fun and adventurous spirits! We try to have as much outdoor education as Mother Nature allows, and when we are inside, our school has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Our school is near a military base and our population reflects that, over 50% of my students are Military kids. We are happy to have them while they are here and sad to see these families move on to their next assignment. The reason my kids are so special is all the life experiences they have had and are able to share. We have students that have lived in Alaskan villages, various countries around the world, and drive from across town.
My students are high achieving, energetic learners!
They love to lay on the floor together to complete projects, collaborate during science, and partner read stories. They are authors that like to create books with their original stories and then publish them to share. They are scientists that rise to every STEM challenge, and learn from our mistakes. We work on our growth mindset daily and remind ourselves that we can do a lot, and some things we can’t do YET.
My Project
Second graders are full of energy and it is nice to have seating options for all types of learners. Plus, it makes reading extra special when you can curl up in a comfy chair with a new chapter book.
Students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work and seating choice.
Wobble seats provide the ability to slightly move while sitting in a regular chair. Floor seating is good for students building core strength, plus it seems special when you complete a task and can move to work on the floor.
