Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach reading to 80 fourth grade students. My students are from low income, high poverty homes. Eighty percent of our students are on free and reduced lunch. My students are adventurous, innovative, and compassionate. Despite the adversities they face in and out of school, they persevere academically. Our classroom is filled with Flexible seating to promote a student-centered environment. These seats provide students with unique opportunities to take ownership and become invested in their education. My students inspire me to seek resources to enrich them. I created this project for teacher chairs to allow students to become the teacher for the day.

My goal is to cultivate a learning environment that produces motivated, empowered, and engaged learners.

Students earn rewards to become teacher of the day, and the office chairs will further empower them. Student motivation and commitment to their learning has already increased through flexible seating.

Flexible seating allows our classroom to be a place of comfort without desk. Students are motivated to read and enjoy the freedom to choose where they learn. Flexible seating heightens communication, learning, and leadership. We have various seats including wobble stools, bike desk, rocking seats, bouncy ball seats, gamer chairs, bean bags and a comfy couch. Thank you for your support and impact on education.
