My students need tables to be able to work in groups without old desks being in the way. Our desks are very, very old and some of them are beginning to fall apart, and they're not safe.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are excited, energetic, and resilient young adults. I serve many students from many diverse backgrounds, and they all have a different story to tell. Almost 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch.

An emphasis in my classroom will be about relationships.

I will utilize these tables to better serve my students, and be able to work on their level without hovering over them and giving them that connection that they need from me as their teacher.

My Project

My school follows a learning-focused lesson plan approach where students are continually working in collaborative pairs in the classroom. These tables will allow my students to already be in pairs or groups without having to move around in their old desks which are right handed desks, tilted at an angle. These tables will benefit my students by eliminating the distractions of continuously moving desks in order to see the board or to be with a pair. This also allows my students to spread out a little more rather than being confined to a small area. These desks will allow me to work in these groups by pulling up a chair, rather than hovering over my students to explain something to them.
