My students need chairs to sit in when they are on the computers practicing with math games or researching science material, as well as, working with me in a small group at my front table.
I love my students. We belong to a Title 1 school. Each of my classes is maxed out sitting at 25 students per class. Our school is located just behind section 8 housing. The majority of the students in my classes are low income; therefore, I have to provide the majority of the school supplies. Our school is 65% free and reduced lunch.
We provide support before and after school through clubs and programs to make the school a safe learning environment.
I specifically assist with math team and Lego robotics clubs. There are students that come to my room for extra assistance in math when they just can't get it. I encourage all my students to try their best and they put forth 100% effort most of the time.
My Project
These chairs will allow the students to get on the computers and/or work with me in a small group without having to move their chairs around the room. I currently have enough chairs to have one at each desk. I do not have enough chairs to put one at each of my computers and my small group table; therefore, my students are at a loss.
Our school is short chairs, and as more chairs break the school doesn't have the funding to replace them.
My students are having to squat down and/or stand in front of the computers in order to use them. It also makes it impossible to have a conference without moving chairs from the desks over to my small group table. Last year I had to cover students from another class but did not have any extra chairs in my room so those students had to sit on the floor with a clipboard to do their work.
My small group table is having the same problem as well. It is difficult to work one on one with my students when they can't concentrate on the math we are doing due to the fact they don't have a seat or they have to find a seat. It will make a tremendous difference to have chairs readily available at my computers and my small group table.
