My General Chemistry class consists of a diverse group of tenth, eleventh and twelfth-grade students in Oklahoma. My students come from a diverse background of socioeconomic and racial backgrounds, and work their hardest to achieve at school.
We focus on group work activities to help strengthen teamwork and learning.
My classroom consists of tables instead of desks to help facilitate their group work and enhance their learning. My student love to move while in their seats and the added benefits that group work provides them.
My Project
My classroom has no seats for their lab sections. The labs are in the classrooms and because of this, I have tables that cannot be used for regular class material. Most of my instruction relies on groups working together to learn and grow as a team and individuals. Therefore, the unused seating provides clutter to an already crowded classroom.
These stools will provide my students a chance to use the lab tables as strong reliable seating that will replace the broken desks and chairs they have now.
Many of the chairs they use now are falling apart, distracting those sitting in them from the lessons. By funding this project you provide my students with a better option to work together during class.
