This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school. We are a small school. This is the first year my students and I will be working together in Second grade.
Most of our students live in the lower socioeconomic status.
A majority of our school receives free or reduced-price lunches. Many live in apartments or in housing authority.
Organization and seating are important. Our reading centers need better seating. I would love to provide my students with a more comfortable and feasible working station.
My Project
I teach at a Title I school. We are a small school. This is the first year my students and I have been together in second grade. I entered the room last summer. It was a whirlwind of a mess. I was grateful for all the materials I did have though. After setting the room up to how I wanted and for good flow of stations/centers rotation, I found that I only had enough seating for my small group teacher table. I had brought in stools from my older grade level teaching time, but it did not work out as well as I had hoped, so I removed them.
While the students have been making the best of it, I really would prefer better seating options at the teacher table, as well as the other station locations.
The current small teacher table chairs are older wooden ones that creak anytime a student moves in the seat; some have started to separate and create small gaps. I worry students could pinch their skin.
