"Mrs. Calvi, I noticed a pattern of adding by ten as we move down." "I get it now!" "I just learned that for the first time ever." My students are curious and observant. Despite being a Title I, high poverty and high English Language Learner school, our emphasis is on growth mindset and rigorous reading instruction. We strive to develop their sense of wonder.
My students are caring, energetic artists, dancers, writers and doers.
There is no stopping their passions. As a class, we work hard to create a culture of gratitude and care. We include time to recognize each other's strengths and encourage each other. Living near the beautiful redwoods, I see our class as a forest. Each year brings new trees to our forest and I love getting to know each tree and how to help them flourish.
My Project
We put our heads together and thought about how to make our learning space more engaging. We decided more seating options in our classroom would allow for flexibility and choice during lessons and independent work.
Soccer equipment allows us to set up our own playing field at school would make PE and recess more accessible for our class and others.
Medicine balls will add a new station to our indoor fitness circuit training.
More Legos mean that we could engineer larger and more complex structures. All these items increase student engagement and excitement at school (and they make learning fun!).
