This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am blessed to teach a special education class at an elementary school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Our school is a Title I school and located just minutes from Fort Bragg. My class is comprised of students ranging from grades kindergarten through 2nd grade. My students are developmentally delayed in terms of cognitive skills, life skills, and social skills. They perform better in a smaller classroom setting and are able to get the one on one attention they need. In this setting, they are able to get up and move and express themselves as needed.
My students are energetic, loving, and eager to learn more each day.
They face challenges on a daily basis that are often overlooked to most. It is my job to aid with these challenges for my students. Being able to learn in a comfortable, relaxing environment is just one way I can.
My Project
When you think of the typical classroom set up, one visualizes rows of desk or tables with chairs around them. It is and has been the traditional seating for students for as long as we remember.
Now imagine walking into a classroom where the desks are not in rows.
The chairs are replaced with brightly colored inflated balance balls and stools that move around as you do.
Flexible seating is one of the best outlets for students to escape the traditional seating option and still be actively engaged in the learning environment. I hope you will donate to my project to support my vision for a comfortable, relaxing learning environment.
