This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special to me because they are challenged in day to day life survival modes. My students are living in low income, single parent or grandparent homes lacking access to middle-income families daily routines. The school is listed as Title I and has become the ray of sunshine for the surrounding community.
My students are sad when the school day ends because they go home to situations of homelessness, staying with friends, Covid exposure, homes lacking in heating, electricity, and basic food supplies.
At dismissal, one student commented, “ I don’t want to go. I like it here. “
My Project
Have you ever been seated on a tile floor for a lesson? Currently we have a chair seating or the tile floor for seating for all our lessons in a Prekindergarten classroom.
Our class room in need of some nice warm carpet seating to have whole group or center time instructions.
The tile floor can be hard and cold on some days. Sitting in chairs for 3-5 year old students all day can also be very demanding. Having a nice warm carpet to use for centers like reading to self, reading with a friend, blocks, math time, story time and many other activities would help with some basic needs in a prekindergarten learning environment.
