Help me give my students flexible seating options, including wobble cushions, floor seats, and pillows, as well as a CD/cassette player, and privacy partitions.
Our school is three years young and growing strong. My students are all students with special needs. Every student in my room requires an individualized learning experience to help them grasp the standards being taught. Learning has not always been easy for my students. Their special needs have caused learning to be difficult and some times a struggle which has tainted the learning experience for them.
In my classroom, I strive to making learning as individualized and enjoyable as possible.
Finding different tools to make that possible is very important for my students educational success. I set high expectations for my students and feel that it is my job to help them achieve their goals through research and the find new ways and tools to help them be successful.
I also strive to help my students understand that success is not always making the perfect score on a test or knowing ALL of the information about the standard being taught. Yes, those things are desirable but I strive to teach and instill into my students that success is putting forth your full effort and knowing you have applied all that you had to complete a task and achieve a goal.
My Project
For students of any capacity flexible seating can benefit the learning process. Giving students options other than a traditional desk opens the door for them to focus more on their learning and less on sitting the "correct" way in their desk.
Students with issues "being still" and "staying on task" and benefit from wiggle seats and different seating options .
A sitting area with calming pillows for an overstimulated student can give much needed space and calming to help a student focus more on the learning task at hand. Calming pillows provide a soft, calming space for student to soothe themselves. Privacy partitions provide students with the opportunity to block out things they find distracting and bothersome. Wobble cushions provide a way for students to sit and get the "wiggles" out while working. Many of my students love to sit on the floor and work with their legs stretched out in front of them and a flex-space comfy floor seat will make this possible for them.
The goal of this project is to help provide my students with differentiated seating options to better meet their learning needs.
