The majority of my students come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach at a Title I school where poverty is a reality for a great deal of my students. The sad reality is that for many of them, school is the only comfortable, safe, and loving place they know. It is very important to me to create a nurturing environment where they can feel safe and cared for while they learn.
My little learners are excited about learning to read but have a great deal of difficulty with literacy.
Because they come into my reading lab with a wide array of literacy skills and learning styles, it is essential that I give them opportunities to learn that are differentiated and individualized for each unique child. It is my passion to create an engaging and fun learning environment to help them be successful and to instill a lifelong love for learning!
My Project
As a reading specialist, I serve struggling literacy learners in kindergarten, first, second, and third grades, including many English language learners. The enormous range of skill levels and areas of needed intervention means there's a wide array of data collected from ongoing assessments and observations and used to create targeted and intentional lessons for all my students' varied literacy needs. The four multi-colored binders and card stock will allow me to keep important data and anecdotal notes on each individual student and their reading intervention groups, organized neatly by grade level. The mesh organizing tray will be a fantastic way to store the group binders at and keep the needed data at my fingertips.
When my students come into our reading lab, we have a limited time for focused, intense intervention and a very limited space for seating options.
The flex-space floor seats will give my literacy learners options for comfortable seating that fits their individual needs and helps insure they are able to remain engaged and focused as we work on their literacy skills each day!
